Willey Wilky

According to Charles Mackay, Jacobite Songs and Ballads of Scotland from 1688 to 1746, (London and Glasgow, 1861), 48-49, “Willy Wilkey” was among nicknames popularly bestowed on William III of England (1650-1702), better known as William of Orange.

“Willy Wilkey” itself did not want for parts. Bremner published a six part version in 1746. But it was in its original two part form that it made its way to Ireland.
