The Leitrim Greg's Pipes

A variation on the Sutherland adaptation has become a very popular setting in Leitrim, and is variously known as “The Leitrim Greg’s Pipes”, “The Leitrim Bucks” and, sometimes, “Peadar Fitzpatrick’s Reel”. The order of the parts is C,D,AB and, although they are clearly derived from Sutherland’s adaptation of O’Farrell, they differ considerably from it textually.

It is not attested in the local manuscripts of south Leitrim, and when it first appeared in print in Treoir in 1972, the source was given as Micheál Mac Aogáin, who no doubt got it from his friend, Michael McNamara, who is from south Leitrim.
