Donalbane
“Donalbane” is an Anglicisation of Domhnull Bàn, a Gaelic sobriquet popularly given to Donald III, King of Scots, (1032-1099)
“Donalbane” had an independent history of its own, acquiring a third part under the guise of “Willie Davie”, before crossing to Nova Scotia as “Margaree”, where it shed the Scottish third part in favour of a new Canadian third part. “Donalbane” seems not to have had any presence in Ireland and, although the other two, “Willy Wilkey” and “The Reel of Tulloch”, did arrive in Ireland as mentioned, they did not imbed in the local tradition.
