Sutherland's 6-part version
Alex Sutherland, using the A major key signature, created a six-part setting, by playing the Donalbane section a second time in the normal upper octave, an arrangement that can be described as ABC,D,CD. This was the setting played in scordatura by Ceolus, when in 2009 they took part in the senior Céilí Band competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Tullamore.

How Sutherland thought of this improvement to the tune arrangement is anybody’s guess, but a similar arrangement, though not as coherent as Sutherland’s, exists in Nova Scotia, whereby, having gone through the four parts and returned to the first, instead of going on to the second part an octavo repeat of the fourth part concludes the arrangement. It can be termed ABC,D,AD.
