O'Farrell's 5-part version
Patrick O'Farrell of the Kernan School of nearby Longford had a setting which consisted of the original four parts, followed by a fifth part which is akin to the C,K part in the Kernan D version. The C,K part seems to be a creation of Kernan based on the first “Donalbane” part: hence the K superscript. In the O'Farrell setting a variant of this part is played in the higher octave and transposed to A. His setting can therefore be described as ABC,D,CK. This may represent experimentation by Kernan, his teacher, before he devised the C,K part for the D version of the tune.
